Old TVs — especially heavy CRTs and large flat-screens — are classified as WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) and need specialist recycling. You can't put them in your normal bins. In Dorchester, from Poundbury, Fordington and Prince of Wales, we collect TVs and monitors of any type and size from your home. Dorchester Recycling Centre (1.0 mile from Dorchester) has a WEEE bay for electronics. TVs are accepted, but larger screens can be awkward to transport in a car. Old CRT TVs are particularly heavy — a 32-inch CRT weighs around 40kg. Dorset address proof required. If you've got a TV plus other items to clear, a TipRun collection makes more sense than multiple tip trips.
Fordington has narrow streets. Poundbury has wide, well-planned access. Town centre properties can be tricky for large items due to narrow doorways. For TV disposal, please unplug the TV and remove any wall brackets if wall-mounted (we collect the TV, not the bracket). Remotes, cables, and small accessories can go with the TV at no extra charge. Town centre has pay-and-display and limited short-stay. Poundbury has ample parking. Residential areas have mostly on-street.
