How to Dispose of a Mattress in Dorset

Information verified January 2025

Mattress Disposal in Dorset

Mattresses are one of the most awkward items to get rid of — too big for bins, too floppy to carry easily, and charity shops can't resell them due to hygiene regulations.

Option 1: Council Bulky Waste

BCP Council: £37.50 for up to 3 items, 2–3 week wait. Dorset Council: £30 for first item, up to 4 weeks. Both require you to get the mattress to your property boundary.

Option 2: Recycling Centre

All Dorset recycling centres accept mattresses. You'll need to transport it — strap it to a roof rack or use a van/trailer (permit needed).

Option 3: TipRun Collection (from £45)

Same-day from any room. We carry it out, load it, and take it for recycling. Add a bed frame for £25.

Can You Donate a Mattress?

Most charity shops won't accept mattresses due to hygiene regulations. Some specialist organisations (like homeless shelters) may accept new or nearly-new mattresses — call ahead.
