How to Get Rid of an Old Carpet in Poole, Bournemouth and Dorset

Information verified September 2026

Your options for an old carpet

Take it to the tip

BCP Council's recycling centres list carpet with the DIY items you can take free, alongside insulation and roofing felt. Dorset Council tips accept carpets too. A rolled-up room carpet is heavy and awkward, so cut it into strips about a metre wide and roll them tight.

Council bulky waste collection

BCP charges £41 for one item and £11 for each extra item, and it has to be outside by 7:30am on the day. Dorset Council's service is run by Dorset Reclaim, from £40 for the first item.

Have it collected from inside

If the carpet is still upstairs, or it's several rooms plus underlay and grippers, we lift it out and take it away. Runs start from £49, and a quarter van load is from £99. Send a photo for a price before we load.

Frequently asked questions

Can carpet go in my household bin?

Small offcuts in a bag, usually yes. A whole room of carpet and underlay needs the tip, a council collection or a clearance service.

Do you take the underlay and gripper rods?

Yes. Bag or bundle the grippers so nobody gets cut, and we take the lot.

How much is carpet removal?

Runs start from £49. Send a photo and we give you the price before we load.
